State BOE votes to close 2 Fayette schools

The West Virginia Board of Education voted to close two Fayette County schools in the New Haven district at its Wednesday meeting by a vote of 6 to 2. Despite pushback from some parents, teachers, and county school board members, Danese Elementary and Nuttall Middle will be shuttered this July.

Raleigh County earned a “B” in smoke-free regulation, according to the State of Tobacco Control 2012 scorecard released by the American Lung Association. Although Raleigh, Fayette, Wyoming, Greenbrier, Monroe and Nicholas counties all ranked “B” on the scorecard, the state as a whole did not fare so well.
